Making Bread (not bombs) - by Tara Bryan (2013)

Over two years in the making, this work is the result of the cross-pollination of two projects, Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here and Book-Art-Object 4.

Car bombs and breadmaking converged in the Fertile Crescent to bring forth a hybrid book, which was conceived, designed, printed and assembled by Tara Bryan, walking bird press, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

On one side, breads of the world are arranged by time zones, on the other side, the numbers show by month the date, number killed and number injured for all the suicide and car bombings in Iraq in 2007. The text is laid over watercolour paintings by the artist.

A two-sided flag book, inkjet printed both sides on Red River Premium Matte double-sided paper using an Epson 4880 inkjet. The pages are laser cut and scored, and trimmed, folded and assembled by hand. The wrapper is Cave Paper, tied with linen twine. Edition 75.
